Back in our Arms

Today we had our first chance to hold our son since more than 24 hours ago when he went to surgery. This afternoon, they took out the breathing tube, took him off of the warmer, and finally allowed us to hold him. We can see his little face again!

Our little guy is so strong. Not only did he get off the ventilator in about a day, but he also is already using his bag, which means that we will probably be able to start feeding him tomorrow.

We are still waiting on the CF test results, and we have a way to go before we're all better, but you can imagine our relief at the fast progress. He is a strong and healthy boy. He doesn't deserve this, but he continues to have good vitals, and he moves quickly to each milestone. His mommies are just relieved to be able to hold him. Next, we are excited to feed him.

Thank you so much for your continuous thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your words. Your comments have helped us more than we can express to you. We will continue to keep the updates going. We hope to report only good progress here. Thank you again for everything. We needed you all, more than you can ever really know.

Hey... didn't you guys use a sperm bank?? They should have tested for CF (and did you get tested during your pregnancy for it?) From my understanding, both the male contribution and the mom would need to be carriers for the baby to have it. Now, you can get a random mutation... so I am guessing that's why they are doing the test. But hopefully, you guys will get good news soon regarding his test results!!

Hooray! It is so, so wonderful to hear that A is back where he needs to be - with the both of you. What a fighter! We will, of course, continue to send good thoughts & much love your way. Keep up the good work little guy!

I think Carey is right. Our sperm bank tested donors for CF and I got tested earlier in the pregnancy to see if I was a carrier.

I think both of you have to be carriers.

So glad you are able to hold your little boy and it sounds like you've got one little fighter on your hands!

Awesome news, ladies! Congrats on being able to hold your boy again - I'm sure he missed you just as much as you missed him! Sounds like he's moving right along through the recovery process - still sending positive thoughts that he continues to get healthier and stronger each day. Give him a snuggle from his fellow Spartan, Mater ;)

You three are constantly on my mind. I'm sorry that you have to be going through this at all. But given that there is no choice in that matter, I'm happy that so far your outcomes have been the best possible ones. I hope and pray that continues and that you three will be home soon and back to the business of family bonding!
hugs
